Family in Sweden

The black and white photo (above) shows Simon's relatives, including Simon's sister Jenny Sophia (second from right) probably at her home in Sweden. (Photo courtesy of Johnson family)

The black and white photo (upper right) is the Simon Johnson family home in Adelov, Sweden. The house was built about 1850 and has two rooms and a kitchen. At the time this photo was taken – 1956 – it was the oldest house in the village, and probably was left when the farm was divided. (Photo from the book Sveriges bebyggelse, "Houses in Sweden").

The color photos show the same farmhouse and outbuildings, now restored and in use, probably as a summer home. (Color photos courtesy of Staffan Palmer)

     "Simon Johnson was born as

Frans Simon Gustavsson in 1883. His mother’s side back to the 1690s were farmers and crofters, as were most of the people in Sweden at that time. Ancestors on his father's side, who owned the same farm back to 1690, included an inspector of a noble estate."
